At the age of three and half years she hosted her own radio show, Dixie's Dainty Dewdrop, on which she also interviewed celebrity who visited Atlanta.

When she was 3 years of age she started her career in the field of entertainment and presented her own children's radio show in her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia at the Golden Age of Radio. She and her mother moved to Hollywood in 1932 where she worked as an extra in several films before earning her breakthrough part as arrogant Joy Smythe in the 1934 picture Bright Eyes opposite Shirley Temple's angelic orphan Shirley Blake. At 21 years of age in 1947 she made 38 pictures before retiring. She rejoined the cinema again in the 1950s as a character performer. She starred as Josephine the Plumber in a series of television ads for Comet cleaner from 1963 until 1974. Jane Withers gave her voice work for Disney animated films in the 1990s and early 2000s. Jane Withers was interviewed for many documentary retrospectives of Hollywood's Golden Age. She was also well-known for her generosity and amassed collection of dolls.
